WINFISH forges partnership with BFAR XII and MSU-General Santos…

WINFISH inked partnership agreements with the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources Region XII and Mindanao State University-General Santos during the Padayon Kita event held at the Sydney Hotel in General Santos City on February 7n, 2020.

WINFISH and the local partners signified their commitment to realize their shared goal of raising awareness on gender equity and women empowerment in fisheries management and to sustain the programs and activities under the USAID Oceans-funded project “Raising Awareness on Gender Equity and Women Empowerment in Fisheries Management in General Santos and Sarangani Bay Area”.

WINFISH and the local partners recognize the importance of utilizing and enhancing women’s status, potentials and capabilities in the fisheries sector for sustainable and equitable development of the country’s fisheries and aquatic resources. 

Under the partnership, WINFISH will provide capacity development on the basics of gender sensitivity, gendered Ecosystem Approach to Fisheries Management (EAFM) and gendered electronic Catch Documentation and Traceability (eCDT) to the local partners; lead in the establishment of a gender network in fisheries  composed of gender partners and champions and like-minded individuals and organizations; establish an online platform to facilitate networking and continuous communication among members of the gender network; and share information and data which can enhance knowledge and appreciation of goals of women empowerment, improvement of women’s status, and promotion of equity among men and women in the fisheries industry in General Santos City and Sarangani Bay Area.

BFAR XII will share information and data with other partners that can enhance knowledge and appreciation of electronic Catch Documentation and Traceability (eCDT) and Ecosystem Approach to Fisheries Management (EAFM); and provide technical assistance, manpower support and services for gender mainstreaming to program/projects/activities and gender integration or advocacies in the region, in collaboration with gender network in fisheries.   MSU-General Santos City for its part will act as the Secretariat of the gender network established under GR003.

WINFISH along with the local partners will work together to promote inclusive and sustainable fisheries management in General Santos City and Sarangani Bay Area.
